In the footsteps of Maria Theresa & Napoleon

Alone

"pro hospitibus primae notae"...

...the monumental Emperor's Staircase was originally accessible, i.e. for guests of the very first order.

Today, Austria's largest Baroque staircase stands at the entrance to the museum in the Imperial Wing, one of Lower Austria's top 55 excursion destinations:

Step up - as Maria Theresa or Emperor Napoleon once did - under Paul Troger's enormous ceiling fresco and experience the most beautiful rooms of the Benedictine monastery!

In the Abbey Museum, the oldest museum in Lower Austria, with its princely and imperial rooms, you can experience the Baroque splendor of the imperial court architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. The monumental Imperial Staircase with its ceiling fresco by Paul Troger (1739) is one of the largest and most beautiful Baroque staircases in Europe. From the baroque Altmanni Hall with its balcony, you can enjoy a panoramic view high above the Wachau.
